Tenth Grade Curriculum

Biblical Introduction
This course is designed to chronologically examine God's plan of redemption as revealed in the sixty-six books of the Bible. The students will be encouraged to apply the principles of God's Word in their daily lives through assigned readings, journals, classroom discussions and interaction with a parent or mentor.

Biology
In biology, students are encouraged to observe and enjoy nature. In order to enjoy nature more, students learn to classify and identify living organisms using their characteristics. Students learn basic characteristics of each kingdom along with its major phyla and learn representative samples from each one. The course goals objectives for second semester are to understand the chemical basis of life, to understand that the cell is the basic unit of life, to understand introductory information about the science of genetics, and to understand systems of the human body.

Geometry
This course is designed for students to gain an understanding of geometry. Students learn definitions, postulates, theorems and formulas to solve problems dealing with lines, angles, and plane figures.

American Studies I
American Studies I is a study of American history from early exploration by Europeans through Reconstruction.  The goal of this course is to understand the key influences which shaped the United States, possess a chronological understanding of American history and understand how the principles behind the founding of America impact our country today.  The students will construct a research paper in coordination with the American Literature and Composition I course.

American Literature and Composition I
The goal for this course is that students will be able to read, write, speak and listen skillfully. This will be accomplished by focusing on composition, vocabulary, grammar, literature and reading. The class will also prepare for PSAT/SAT verbal skills.

Spanish II
Spanish II builds upon the learning students gained in their Spanish I class. The students will develop greater communicative competence through the study and practice of intermediate grammar concepts. The culture of Latin America is also be studied through videos and guest speakers from other countries.
